THE LEGENDARY VINTAGES... |
Each year, the vagaries of nature combine with the Mosel valley climate to produce a unique vintage. Most are very good, but some, when everything comes together in perfect harmony, are special. The greatest vintages of the past century are described below:
2003 |
You would have to go back many years to find a vintage that could compare with the extraordinary quality of this vintage. The wines should peak between 2010 and 2015.
1990 |
As in 2003, the summer was hot and dry, but the vintage’s wines had less acidity, higher extract content and more finesse.
1976 |
Those with some 1976 wines still in their cellars should be happy. An extremely hot summer gave a small yield with great concentration and deep color.
1947 |
A year with nothing but sunshine and little rain resulted in almost dried out.berries that matured 3 to 4 weeks earlier than normal and produced great wines
1921 |
A long heat wave produced TBA
(Trockenbeeren- auslese) wines with alcohol contents of 13 to14%. This was the last year that one could literally walk across the
dry bed of the Mosel.
